This step-by-step guide will walk you through initializing your device, installing Ledger Live, and safely managing your crypto assets.

Why Ledger?

Ledger is a global leader in cryptocurrency security. With millions of devices sold, Ledger offers a trusted hardware wallet solution that stores your private keys offline, protecting them from online threats such as phishing, malware, and hacking. Combined with the Ledger Live app, you can manage, buy, sell, and stake digital assets — all in one secure environment.

Step 1: Visit the Official Ledger Start Page

Always begin at the secure site:
🔗 Ledger.com/Start

You’ll select your device model and operating system, and be guided through verified instructions for a safe and complete setup. Avoid searching for download links on search engines — phishing sites may try to imitate Ledger.

Step 2: Unbox and Inspect Your Ledger Device

Check your package for:

Ledger devices ship without pre-installed firmware — this ensures you install it yourself from a trusted source.

⚠️ Warning: If your device appears pre-configured or includes a filled recovery sheet, do not use it. Contact Ledger Support immediately.

Step 3: Download Ledger Live

Ledger Live is the official desktop and mobile app to manage your Ledger wallet. Download it only from:

Compatible with Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android.

Once downloaded, open the app and select “Get Started.” Choose “Set up as new device” if this is your first time using a Ledger wallet.

Step 4: Initialize Your Ledger Device

After connecting your device via USB or Bluetooth (Nano X), you’ll be prompted to:

  1. Create a PIN code (4–8 digits) to lock/unlock your wallet
  2. Write down your 24-word recovery phrase (on the provided sheet)
  3. Confirm your phrase by re-entering it on the device

🛡️ Important:

Your recovery phrase is your only backup. If your device is lost, stolen, or damaged, you can restore access to your assets using this phrase on another Ledger device.

Step 5: Install Cryptocurrency Apps

With your device connected and Ledger Live open:

  1. Navigate to “My Ledger”
  2. Allow Ledger Manager access on your device
  3. Install apps for the cryptocurrencies you wish to manage (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana)

Each crypto asset needs its own app installed on your Ledger to enable full functionality.

Step 6: Add Accounts in Ledger Live

Now add individual accounts for each crypto you want to manage:

You’re now ready to receive and send funds.

Step 7: Transact Securely

To Receive Crypto:

  1. Click “Receive” in Ledger Live
  2. Choose the appropriate account
  3. Verify the address on your Ledger device
  4. Share this verified address with the sender

To Send Crypto:

  1. Click “Send”
  2. Enter the recipient address and amount
  3. Confirm details on your Ledger device
